Current Initiatives

This section highlights some current and important initiatives, projects and programs of the Waipa Foundation, and gives some information on exactly how to visit Waipa and volunteer or participate.

Waipa Community Kitchen

The Waipa Foundation is seeking donations and grants to help design, construct, and outfit it's Community Kitchen and Hale Imu.   These facilities will support and foster culturally-appropriate, community based economic development for farmers, Hawaiians, nonprofits, clubs and organizations, small businesses, and families, in Kaua`i's north shore communities and beyond.

Why does our community need this facility?

  • There is currently no similar community-use kitchen available within 20 miles,
  • There is currently no community-use poi mill on the island,
  • To support local farmers and families who can increase their income by doing small-scale processing and product development,
  • To perpetuate Hawaiian culture and lifestyle through making food, teaching, sharing and gathering,
  • To support local nonprofits, halau hula, & other organizations in their fundraising events,
  • Contribute to the localization of our food system.

We have also received a grant award from ANA for kitchen planning.

Reforestation Mauka & Halulu Pond Makai
